Fort Wayne, IN — A winter storm is set to bring a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to northern Indiana through Thursday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions and possible power outages.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday for northern Indiana and northwest Ohio. The storm is expected to deliver up to two inches of snow and sleet, along with ice accumulations of up to three-tenths of an inch. Winds could cause ice-laden tree damage and power outages, making road travel treacherous overnight.
Thursday morning will bring mostly cloudy skies with a high near 28°F, providing a brief break from precipitation. However, another round of snow is likely Friday night into Saturday, bringing an additional one to three inches.
Valentine’s Day travelers should plan ahead, as rain and snow mix is expected Saturday into Sunday, with temperatures in the upper 20s to mid-30s. Drivers should check road conditions by dialing 511 and allow extra time for commutes.
Officials urge caution, as ice could make highways, including I-69 and US-30, nearly impassable in spots.
