Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana residents should prepare for a rainy and chilly week ahead, with heavy rain expected Sunday and a sharp drop in temperatures by Tuesday. Widespread rain could bring accumulations between 0.75 to 1.5 inches, impacting travel and outdoor plans across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin early Sunday morning and persist throughout the day, with high temperatures in the low 50s. By Monday, skies will clear briefly, offering a high near 46 degrees, but colder air will move in overnight. Freezing temperatures in the low 30s are expected Tuesday, along with another round of rain that may transition to snow by Tuesday night.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution as roadways, including major routes such as Interstate 69 and U.S. Route 30, may become slick due to heavy rain and possible freezing conditions later in the week. Winds gusting up to 25 mph on Sunday and Monday could further complicate travel.

Looking ahead, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day will see temperatures dip into the low 20s at night, with scattered snow showers possible. Residents should ensure vehicles and homes are winter-ready, and those traveling for the holiday should monitor updated forecasts.

Stay tuned to local weather updates for any changes in conditions and prepare for a wet and cold start to 2024.
