Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana braces for its first significant snowfall today, with up to 2 inches expected. Residents along and west of US-31 should prepare for slippery conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow will fall between noon and 7 p.m. Wind gusts up to 30 mph will accompany the snow, reducing visibility and creating potentially dangerous travel conditions. Officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distances, and avoid cruise control.

The first snow of the season often leads to increased accidents as drivers adjust to winter conditions. Roadways could become slick, especially during peak travel hours this evening. Meteorologists also warn that visibility may be further reduced due to blowing snow.

Temperatures will hover around 35 degrees today, with overnight lows dropping to 30 degrees. Snow showers are likely to taper off after 8 p.m., leaving cloudy skies.

Winter weather safety tips include keeping extra distance between vehicles, maintaining reduced speeds, and preparing for delays. Authorities stress the importance of checking local forecasts before heading out.

Snowfall marks the start of Indiana’s winter weather season. Residents should remain cautious and plan for longer travel times.
