Fort Wayne, IN – Early morning thunderstorms could bring small hail and heavy downpours across parts of northern Indiana and southwest Lower Michigan.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, scattered storms began tracking northeast around 30 mph early Wednesday morning. Radar images from around 2 a.m. EDT show clusters of storms moving across areas such as Rochester, Marion, and Knox.

The forecast indicates the potential for brief but intense rainfall and hail up to one-half inch in diameter. The storms are expected to overspread the region through 5 a.m. EDT before tapering off.

Communities including Fort Wayne, La Porte, and Benton Harbor should remain alert for quickly changing weather conditions. While the storms are not expected to become severe, drivers and early commuters are urged to use caution due to slick roads and reduced visibility in localized downpours.

The National Weather Service recommends monitoring weather updates and taking cover if storms intensify in your area. There are currently no severe weather warnings in effect, but conditions could shift rapidly.

Updates will be provided if the forecast changes or if warnings are issued.
