Fort Wayne, IN – While many in the Midwest are preparing for spring storms, the National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana reminds residents that measurable snowfall can still occur through late March and early April.

According to the NWS, historical data shows that the average last measurable snowfall for the region typically falls between late March and early April. However, records indicate that snow has occurred as late as May in several locations. For example, Fort Wayne’s latest measurable snow was recorded on May 10, 1945, while South Bend saw its latest on May 11, 1966.

Other cities in the region, including Plymouth, IN, and Pandora, OH, also have late-season snowfall records extending into early May. The earliest measurable snow in some areas has been recorded as early as February.

Residents should remain prepared for potential late-season snow, especially as weather conditions fluctuate in the coming weeks. The NWS encourages monitoring local forecasts for updates on any upcoming winter weather events.
