Northern Indiana – Snowfall is expected to impact Northern Indiana starting early Friday morning, with accumulations reaching 4 to 5 inches in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of slick roads and potential travel delays during the afternoon commute.
According to the NWS, snow will spread from the northwest in the morning, covering the region by the afternoon. Forecasts indicate widespread snowfall of 2 to 4 inches, with isolated areas near Lake Michigan seeing 5 inches or more. Road conditions will likely deteriorate by Friday evening as snow covers highways and major roads.
In Central Illinois, snow is expected to arrive late Thursday night and persist through Friday morning. The NWS projects reduced visibility and slippery roadways, particularly during early commutes. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution on untreated surfaces.
The heaviest snowfall will impact areas close to Interstate 69 in Indiana and portions of southwestern Michigan. Minor travel disruptions are anticipated for most of the region. The snow will taper off in Illinois by late Friday afternoon, moving eastward into Indiana.
Residents should monitor local weather updates and plan accordingly. With temperatures remaining low, any untreated surfaces will stay icy, increasing risks for motorists and pedestrians.
Authorities advise keeping emergency kits in vehicles and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snowfall hours. Snow plows and salt trucks will be deployed, but conditions could remain hazardous until Saturday morning.
Be prepared for slower commutes and give road crews space to work effectively.
