Fort Wayne, IN – Residents of northern Indiana are bracing for a wintry blast as snow and dangerously cold temperatures approach. A weather system moving in Friday is expected to bring 1 to 3 inches of snow, creating slippery road conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will develop Friday afternoon, with accumulation intensifying into the evening. High temperatures Friday will reach just 27 degrees before plunging into the teens overnight. Winds of up to 15 mph will add to the chill, making travel difficult along major routes like Interstate 69 and U.S. 30.
The cold snap will worsen early next week. An arctic air mass is forecast to move into the region Monday night, sending temperatures into the single digits. By Tuesday, highs will struggle to reach the teens, with wind chills falling well below zero.
The National Weather Service advises residents to take precautions, such as limiting time outdoors, dressing in layers, and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready. Lake-effect snow could impact parts of the region Sunday and Monday, creating additional hazards for drivers.
Looking ahead, a mix of partly sunny and mostly cloudy skies is expected Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s. Another snow chance returns Sunday night into Monday.
