Chicago, Illinois – Rainy skies and cooler air will settle over much of northern Illinois this weekend, with a new storm system bringing showers and possible thunderstorms from Sunday into Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, areas south of a Pontiac to Valparaiso line may see lingering morning rain Saturday, followed by drier and notably cooler conditions across the region. Highs will range from 54 to 62 degrees, dropping into the upper 30s and low 40s overnight. By Sunday, breezy winds will accompany highs in the 50s, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected—particularly along and south of I-80.

Monday brings more wind and early rain before skies clear briefly. Temperatures will begin climbing, with highs in the 60s returning Tuesday and Wednesday. However, chances for more scattered showers and storms remain, especially along the lakefront and northern suburbs early next week.

Drivers should be cautious of slick roads during morning commutes and check local alerts if traveling Sunday evening. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items ahead of Monday’s wind gusts and keep devices charged in case of power flickers during storms.

Rain chances persist through Sunday night, with more updates expected as the next system approaches.
