Chicago, IL – A winter storm brought widespread snowfall to northern Illinois and northwest Indiana from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Areas near the Illinois-Wisconsin border recorded up to 5 inches of snow.
According to the National Weather Service, Lake Villa and Harvard led with 5 inches of accumulation. Nearby Woodstock saw 4.3 inches, while Hobart, Indiana, recorded 4.5 inches. Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport reported 2.2 inches.
A fast-moving clipper system delivered 1-3 inches across most areas. Additional lake effect snow added up to 3 inches in parts of northwest Indiana, including Valparaiso and Hobart.
The storm created slippery roads and prompted local crews to work overnight to clear main streets. Temperatures hovered near freezing, causing icy patches on untreated surfaces.
Meteorologists urge residents to monitor forecasts as more lake effect snow could develop. Drivers should plan extra time for travel and stay cautious on icy roads.
