Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois residents are advised to prepare for heavy rainfall that may bring flash flooding tonight. The National Weather Service in Chicago forecasts an approaching storm that could drop between 2 to 4 inches of rain across parts of the region.
According to the National Weather Service, the incoming storm will interact with an unseasonably warm, moisture-rich air mass, raising concerns over potential flash floods, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Though drought conditions have led to low stream flows and drier soil, meteorologists caution that a high rainfall volume could still cause flash flooding.
Residents are encouraged to clear storm drains and gutters of leaves and debris, as clogged drains can worsen flooding issues. The weather service urges individuals to monitor forecasts for any updated flood advisories, watches, or warnings, as rainfall amounts remain uncertain. Even minor flooding could occur with lower rainfall totals, creating potential hazards in affected areas.
