Chicago, IL – Strong winds are expected across northern and central Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana, today, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory, warning residents to secure outdoor objects and drive with caution, particularly on west-to-east roads.

According to the NWS Chicago office, winds will intensify late this morning and persist until around sunset. The strongest gusts are expected between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. CDT, with the southwest winds potentially causing hazardous conditions for high-profile vehicles and unsecured items.

Residents are urged to take precautions, including securing lightweight outdoor furniture and decorations. Drivers should remain vigilant in open and exposed areas where strong gusts may make maneuvering difficult.

These gusty conditions are not uncommon for this time of year, but they still pose risks, including minor travel disruptions and scattered debris. While no significant structural damage is expected, the NWS advises people to remain aware of changing conditions throughout the day.
