Tallahassee, FL – A hard freeze warning remains in effect for the Florida Panhandle overnight, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 21°F. Wind chills in some areas could make it feel like the low 20s, prompting calls for residents to protect vulnerable plants, pipes, and pets.
According to the National Weather Service, the freeze warning extends until 9 a.m. Sunday. Residents are urged to wrap outdoor pipes, cover plants, and ensure pets and livestock have shelter. Prolonged exposure to these frigid temperatures can also pose risks to humans, with hypothermia being a primary concern.
Saturday night’s forecast predicts clear skies, with widespread frost forming by morning. Sunday will see sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures, with a high near 61°F. A further warm-up is expected Monday, with highs reaching 61°F again and low temperatures climbing into the mid-40s.
Looking ahead, Tuesday brings a noticeable change, with partly sunny skies and highs near 69°F. By midweek, temperatures could climb into the 70s, providing relief for those weary of the recent cold snap.
Drivers are advised to use caution on rural roadways, especially in areas prone to frost, which can create slippery conditions. Residents should check on vulnerable neighbors and use heating devices safely to prevent fires or carbon monoxide poisoning.
Be prepared for a cold night and make the necessary precautions to stay safe. Relief from the cold is just a few days away.
