Eureka, CA – A winter weather system is set to blanket Northern California’s Trinity County with heavy snow and gusty winds, creating hazardous travel conditions through early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday for Northern Trinity County, including Highway 3 at Scott Mountain Pass. Forecasters expect snow accumulations of up to 8 inches along higher elevations, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph.

The advisory warns that roads will become slick and potentially dangerous, particularly in mountainous areas. Drivers are urged to slow down and prepare for low visibility and slippery surfaces. Tree branches may also fall due to high winds, posing additional hazards along rural roads and mountain passes.

The advisory comes as late-season snowstorms continue to impact Northern California’s inland regions, where March snowfall is not uncommon but still poses significant travel disruptions. Local officials recommend checking road conditions by calling 5-1-1 and allowing extra time for travel during the advisory period.

Residents and travelers in Trinity County should stay alert, monitor weather updates, and keep emergency supplies on hand in case of travel delays or outages caused by wind damage.
