Eureka, CA – Northern California residents should prepare for shifting spring weather this weekend, with hazardous sneaker waves expected along the coast and rain on the way next week. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Beach Hazards Statement through Saturday afternoon, warning of large, unexpected waves that could sweep beachgoers into the ocean.
According to the NWS, sneaker waves pose a significant danger along the Coastal Del Norte, Northern Humboldt, Southwestern Humboldt, and Mendocino Coast counties. These waves can surge without warning, carrying debris such as logs that could trap or injure anyone caught underneath. Officials advise visitors to stay far back from the shoreline, avoid rocks and jetties, and never turn their back on the ocean.
Saturday’s forecast includes patchy morning fog before clearing to mostly sunny skies with a high near 56°F. Sunday will be partly sunny, with temperatures reaching 59°F. However, a shift begins Monday, as clouds and patchy fog return ahead of a rain system expected Tuesday evening into Wednesday.
Five-Day Outlook:
• Saturday: Mostly sunny, high 56°F.
• Sunday: Partly sunny, high 59°F.
• Monday: Patchy fog, high 57°F.
• Tuesday: Rain arrives late, high 54°F.
