Sacramento, California – Extreme heat and fire weather conditions are raising red flags across Northern California today, with temperatures in the Sacramento Valley expected to reach a scorching 100°F by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a moderate HeatRisk remains in effect across the Valley and Foothills, where highs will range from the upper 80s to triple digits. Gusty winds and dry conditions have triggered critical fire weather alerts across the Northern and Central Valley, especially in areas like Yuba City, Chico, and the northern Sacramento metro.

In the Delta region, cooler but still warm temperatures between 73°F and 86°F are expected, while the Foothills will climb to 88°F–94°F. Even the typically cooler Mountain zones could top out near 87°F.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor work during peak heat, and avoid activities that could spark wildfires. The combination of dry fuels and strong winds makes any ignition potentially fast-moving.

Warnings remain in effect through Monday evening, and officials say elevated fire danger may extend into midweek. Stay tuned to weather.gov/sto for real-time updates.
