Weaverville, Calif. – Gardeners and growers in Trinity County should prepare for patchy frost early Monday as temperatures dip close to freezing.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday across Northern and Southern Trinity County, including Weaverville, Peanut, Forest Glen, and Hayfork. Overnight lows are expected to reach 33°F, cold enough to damage or kill sensitive plants left uncovered.

Residents are urged to take immediate precautions by covering outdoor vegetation or bringing potted plants indoors. While the frost is expected to be light, even brief exposure could harm spring seedlings or budding fruit trees.

The advisory comes as Northern California experiences a brief return to colder-than-normal nighttime temperatures. Areas in higher elevations or valleys may see more widespread frost development, especially before dawn.

This is the 13th frost advisory issued for the region this season, and NWS warns more could follow if cold conditions persist through April.

Warnings remain in effect until 9 a.m. Monday. Additional advisories are possible later this week if chilly overnight lows continue.
