Eureka, California – Coastal communities along northwest California are facing another round of high tide flooding Sunday as elevated ocean levels threaten low-lying shoreline areas from Humboldt Bay northward.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Coastal Flood Warning is in effect late Sunday morning through early afternoon for the Humboldt Coast, while a Coastal Flood Advisory covers the Mendocino and Del Norte coasts. Although tides are expected to run slightly lower than Saturday’s record-breaking levels, forecasters warn that flooding impacts are still possible, especially in vulnerable coastal locations.
High tide around Humboldt Bay is expected late Sunday morning, with water levels capable of reaching more than nine feet above mean lower low water. Areas near King Salmon, Fields Landing, Arcata Bottoms, and the North Spit are especially susceptible to flooding of roads, parking areas, and low-lying properties. Crescent City and Arena Cove could also see minor inundation around peak tide.
Southerly winds and lingering swell may enhance water levels, increasing the risk of saltwater pushing inland through storm drains and over seawalls. Beach erosion and localized debris movement are also possible near exposed shoreline areas.
Residents and visitors are urged to avoid low-lying coastal roads during peak tide, secure vehicles away from flood-prone areas, and use caution near jetties and harbor entrances. Coastal flooding concerns may continue into Monday, and additional advisories could be issued if tides or surf run higher than expected.
