Eureka, CA – Northern Trinity County residents brace for a significant winter storm expected to bring heavy snow and strong winds.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning effective from 8 a.m. Friday through 4 p.m. Saturday. The storm targets areas above 3,000 feet, with total snow accumulations of 10 to 23 inches near Scott Mountain Pass. Areas at or above 3,000 feet, including Highway 3 and Buckhorn Summit along Highway 299, could see up to 12 inches of snow.

According to the NWS, wind gusts may reach 45 mph, increasing the risk of falling tree branches and hazardous travel conditions. Drivers are urged to carry tire chains and winter storm kits. Travel through mountain passes is expected to be extremely challenging, with slippery roads and low visibility.

Officials recommend delaying non-essential travel until conditions improve. Those who must travel should prepare for possible emergencies, bringing blankets, water, and first aid supplies. Residents should monitor weather updates closely and exercise caution if driving in affected areas.

The storm highlights the need for vigilance during extreme weather events. Stay informed and prepared to minimize risk.
