San Francisco, CA – A 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck just northwest of Pinole early Monday morning, shaking awake thousands across the Bay Area but causing no immediate reports of damage.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake hit at 4:30 a.m. local time with an epicenter 2 km northwest of Pinole and a depth of 9.7 km. More than 4,000 people submitted “Did You Feel It?” reports, indicating light to moderate shaking from San Jose to Sacramento.
Residents in Berkeley, Richmond, and Oakland described a short, sharp jolt. No structural damage or injuries have been reported, but light shaking was widely felt in upper-floor buildings. BART and Caltrans officials have not announced any delays, though inspections are ongoing.
While Monday’s tremor was relatively minor, California’s Office of Emergency Services reminded residents to review their earthquake preparedness plans and secure heavy furniture. The Bay Area sits atop multiple active faults, and even moderate quakes can precede larger events.
Seismologists say no aftershocks have been reported as of 6 a.m., but localized seismic activity could continue.
