Susanville, CA – A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck 10 kilometers north-northeast of Susanville early Thursday morning, causing minor tremors across the region. Occurring at 5:19 a.m. UTC, the quake registered at a depth of 3.2 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake’s shallow depth likely intensified the shaking felt in Susanville and nearby areas. According to USGS data, the tremor reached a level III on the Community Internet Intensity Map, indicating that some residents may have felt the quake, although damage is unlikely.

Reports from local citizens are encouraged to help the USGS understand the quake’s full impact. Residents who felt the tremor can submit their experiences through the “Did You Feel It?” platform on the USGS website, contributing valuable data for seismic studies.

California lies along several fault lines, making it prone to earthquakes. While Thursday’s quake was mild, residents are reminded of the importance of earthquake preparedness in the region.
