Huntsville, AL – Residents across northern Alabama should prepare for a shift in weather later this week, as several rounds of thunderstorms are expected to move into the state, bringing the potential for strong wind gusts, small hail, and downpours. The main activity is anticipated to begin late Wednesday and carry through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the threat of strong storms will increase beginning late Wednesday night and escalate by Thursday afternoon. The highest probability for storms, reaching up to a 60% chance, is projected for Friday afternoon in cities including Huntsville, Decatur, and Cullman. Forecasters are not anticipating widespread severe weather, but they advise that any storm could produce potent lightning and localized heavy rain.

In addition to the storm risk, a significant rise in humidity will push the heat index into the mid-to-upper 90s from Friday through the weekend. Officials advise residents to take precautions against the heat, such as staying hydrated and limiting strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.

Alabamians should monitor local alerts and ensure they have a way to receive weather warnings. Chances for thunderstorms will continue into early next week, with probabilities remaining around 50% for most of the region through Monday.
