Huntsville, AL – A cold weather advisory is in effect for northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee starting midnight Sunday. Temperatures could plummet to as low as -5 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill, creating dangerous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the advisory will last until noon Monday. Counties affected include Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison, and Cullman in Alabama, and Lincoln and Franklin in Tennessee. Air temperatures are forecast between 8 to 12 degrees, with wind chills dropping to zero or below.

Frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly in these conditions. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity and cover exposed skin. Pets should be kept indoors, and precautions should be taken to prevent freezing pipes.

Authorities recommend layering warm clothing and ensuring that heating systems are working properly. Check on vulnerable neighbors and avoid unnecessary travel as roads may freeze overnight.

The extreme cold is part of an arctic air mass sweeping the region. Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and take safety measures to protect themselves and their families.
