Green Bay, Wis. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across northeast and east-central Wisconsin Friday afternoon, bringing the threat of large hail and damaging wind gusts during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, storms are likely to begin around 1 p.m. and continue through 7 p.m., moving from north to south. Areas including Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, and Sheboygan lie within the zone of greatest severe weather potential, marked in dark green on updated hazard maps.

If storms intensify, residents could see hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts reaching 60 mph. Lightning will also be frequent, increasing the risk for power outages and hazardous travel, particularly on major routes like I-41 and Highway 29.

Residents in Marinette, Fond du Lac, and surrounding communities should secure outdoor items and monitor forecasts throughout the day. Emergency managers advise limiting non-essential travel during active storms and having a weather radio or alert-enabled phone ready.

Storms are expected to weaken after sunset, but additional advisories may be issued as the system progresses. Stay tuned to NWS Green Bay for real-time updates.
