Shreveport, LA – A cold start is gripping Louisiana and surrounding areas today, with temperatures plunging into the mid-20s this morning. Highs will remain below average, reaching only the 30s and low 40s. Residents are urged to prepare for dangerous wind chills, especially along the I-20 corridor, where gusts may reach 35 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. today, with wind chills as low as 5°F reported early this morning. A Wind Advisory, which expired at 6 a.m., created hazardous conditions overnight, leading to downed branches and isolated power outages.
Temperatures will slightly improve Tuesday, with highs near 42°F under sunny skies. A stronger system moves in Thursday, bringing a chance of freezing rain, snow, and hazardous travel. Highways, including I-20 and I-49, may experience slick patches, particularly in the evening. Drivers should stay updated on road conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during wintry weather.
The extended forecast shows highs in the mid-40s Friday, with partly sunny skies expected to clear lingering precipitation. Morning lows will stay in the 20s through the week. Residents should take precautions, including insulating pipes, protecting outdoor pets, and dressing warmly when outdoors.
