Binghamton, NY – Snow showers and colder temperatures are set to sweep through Northeast Pennsylvania and Central New York this week, with travel impacts possible along the I-81 corridor. Residents should prepare for icy conditions and plan for slower commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, light snow showers may clip parts of Luzerne County on Tuesday, with accumulations of up to two inches. Temperatures are forecasted to dip into the low 20s during the day and plunge into the teens overnight, making roads particularly slick.
The week’s cold pattern will continue with lake-effect snow showers likely on Wednesday for Central New York. Winds gusting up to 28 mph may lead to reduced visibility and blowing snow. Highs will remain in the upper teens to low 20s midweek, with overnight lows dropping to around 11°F.
Thursday and Friday will see partly cloudy skies and continued cold temperatures, with highs near 20°F on Thursday and 25°F on Friday. Wind chills are expected to make conditions feel even colder throughout the region.
Drivers traveling along major highways, including I-81 and I-86, are urged to exercise caution, especially during the early morning and late evening hours when icy patches are most likely.
