Cleveland, Ohio – Severe storms are expected to intensify across Northeast Ohio late this afternoon, with the potential to produce damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes before midnight.

According to the National Weather Service, an enhanced risk covers much of the region, including Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Youngstown. Storms will develop through the late afternoon and continue into the overnight hours, bringing wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, hail, and the possibility of brief tornadoes.

Rainfall totals could reach up to 1.75 inches in some areas, especially along the I-90 and I-77 corridors, raising concerns for localized flooding on roads and in low-lying areas. Cities such as Elyria, Mansfield, and Ashtabula may experience rapid changes in conditions as storms move through.

Drivers should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during the evening commute. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, charge devices, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The severe threat will taper off overnight, but additional alerts remain possible as storms track east across the region.
