Cleveland, Ohio – A stretch of clear skies in Northeast Ohio will give way to thunderstorms by Wednesday night, with the Cleveland area likely to see significant rain and possible travel delays through early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms could develop after 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the heaviest activity expected between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Thursday. Rain chances rise to 70% Thursday and remain at 60% through Thursday night. Winds from the south at 8 to 13 mph may increase during storms.

Cleveland will see a high of 87°F on Wednesday — the warmest day of the week — before storms bring cooler, wetter conditions. Rain could impact commuters along I-90 and I-71 during Thursday morning rush hour. Those with outdoor plans should consider alternate arrangements, especially for evening events.

Residents are urged to secure loose items, avoid flooded roadways, and charge mobile devices ahead of the storms. While rainfall totals remain uncertain, brief street flooding and isolated power outages are possible.

Storm chances drop by Friday night, but lingering showers may persist into Saturday.
