Cleveland, OH – A powerful lake-effect snowstorm is set to continue hammering Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania through Saturday morning, bringing accumulations of 10-20 inches across the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), areas near the Lake Erie snowbelt, including parts of Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Erie counties, could see snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour. In higher elevations, totals may exceed 20 inches. Strong wind gusts of up to 50 mph will create blowing snow, reducing visibility and making travel dangerous.
Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly on major highways such as I-90 and I-79, where slick conditions and near-whiteout visibility are likely. The heaviest snow bands are expected Thursday evening into Friday.
The storm is forecast to taper off by Saturday morning, followed by improving conditions over the weekend. Temperatures will rise into the 30s Saturday and approach the mid-40s by Sunday, offering a brief respite from winter conditions.
Residents are advised to remain alert for updates and take precautions, including carrying emergency kits in vehicles and limiting outdoor exposure during extreme conditions.
