Cleveland, OH – Northern Ohio is bracing for severe weather on Saturday, with forecasts predicting damaging winds, large hail, and potential tornadoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe weather outlook for June 29, warning of significant weather threats across northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania.
According to the NWS, the most severe storms are expected to develop in the afternoon and evening. The primary concerns are damaging winds with gusts up to 70 mph, hail the size of quarters, and a few tornadoes, particularly in areas south of I-90 and east of I-71. The forecast also mentions the possibility of flash flooding in some regions.
“The forecast confidence is low for severe storms due to uncertainty about daytime heating and instability,” the NWS stated. “However, conditions may become favorable for severe thunderstorms later in the day.”
Residents are advised to stay informed and have a reliable way to receive weather alerts. Scattered thunderstorms are likely, and localized impacts could be severe. The NWS recommends taking precautions to secure outdoor items and prepare for potential power outages.
Saturday’s temperatures are forecasted to reach a high of 79°F with an 85% chance of rain. The severe weather threat is expected to diminish by late evening, giving way to clearer conditions on Sunday with a high of 75°F.
In addition to the immediate severe weather threats, the extended forecast for the region shows moderate conditions. Sunday and Monday will be cooler, with highs in the mid-70s to low-70s, respectively, and mostly clear skies. By Tuesday, temperatures will rise to 82°F under partly cloudy skies, and by mid-week, highs will approach the mid-80s with sunny weather continuing through Thursday.
