Omaha, NE – Strong winds and dry conditions are raising fire danger across Nebraska today, putting residents at risk, especially along U.S. Highway 75. The National Weather Service has issued a high fire danger warning for the region, urging caution as any fires that spark could spread rapidly due to gusty winds. Breezes today will range from 14 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 32 mph, elevating the fire threat.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a slight chance of evening showers in northeast Nebraska, but a more significant rain event is expected on Monday. Highs will range between 73 and 77 degrees today, and temperatures will dip to the mid-50s overnight.

Saturday will bring slightly milder conditions, with temperatures reaching 78 degrees and winds from the south around 6 to 16 mph. While fire risk remains, the region can expect mostly sunny skies for outdoor plans. Showers are expected late Monday afternoon, providing some relief from the dry conditions.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and ensure that vehicles and equipment do not spark fires along roadways. Officials remind the public that strong winds can carry embers from controlled burns or accidental fires, making containment difficult.

With more showers forecast into early next week, the fire danger will likely decrease, but everyone in the area should remain alert this weekend.
