Fort Worth, TX – North Texas residents should brace for severe weather today, with thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and potential flash floods expected across the region. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for areas including Dallas, Fort Worth, and surrounding counties, with the highest impact predicted from early afternoon through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service, rain totals could reach 2 to 5 inches, posing a serious risk of flooding in low-lying areas. Strong winds, hail up to 1 inch, and isolated tornadoes are also possible, particularly along I-35 and nearby rural roads. Motorists should avoid driving on flooded roads and heed warnings to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Rapid flooding could impact key routes, including I-35 and State Highway 121, with low-visibility conditions and sudden water pooling.
The primary threat window spans from midday into the late evening, though rain may persist overnight. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and stay updated on local weather alerts. Emergency kits, with flashlights, water, and first-aid supplies, are advised in case of power outages or road closures.
Looking ahead, rain chances are expected to diminish by Saturday morning, offering some relief for weekend plans. However, light showers could linger through the afternoon, especially in eastern counties. Temperatures will dip into the 50s, creating a cooler atmosphere for Veterans Day parades on Monday.
A calmer start to the week is forecast after the holiday, with clear skies and mild temperatures returning by Tuesday.
