Jackson, MS – A wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet continues to impact northern Mississippi, especially along I-20 and Highway 82, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has reported icy roads and bridges in Bolivar and Sunflower counties, urging drivers to proceed with caution.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, freezing precipitation is moving eastward, affecting areas north of Highway 82, where sleet may still accumulate. Temperatures remain above freezing in some spots but could dip lower by the afternoon, increasing the risk of freezing rain and slick roads.

South of I-20, precipitation is expected to remain liquid, sparing residents from icy conditions. Still, heavy rain could reduce visibility for drivers throughout Friday morning. Travel is discouraged unless necessary, especially in northern counties where freezing rain is heaviest.

For Saturday, skies will clear, bringing sunny conditions and a high of 44°F. Frosty conditions are likely early in the morning, followed by a calm and dry afternoon. Sunday will remain sunny, with temperatures nearing 55°F, offering a brief reprieve before another round of showers develops late Sunday night into Monday.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and stay off icy roads. For the latest updates, MDOT recommends checking its website or using its travel alert hotline.
