Atlanta, GA – A winter storm is set to impact much of Georgia starting Friday morning, bringing heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Northern Georgia could see between 3 to 6 inches of snow, while metro Atlanta is forecast to receive 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet. Ice accumulation up to two-tenths of an inch may worsen road conditions across the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the Winter Storm Watch, emphasizing hazardous travel conditions. According to the NWS in Peachtree City, the storm will last from Friday morning until Saturday morning. The Friday commute may be severely impacted, with slippery roads and icy bridges likely.

Northern Georgia is expected to face the most snowfall, while Atlanta and areas east of the city will see a mix of freezing rain and sleet. Slight changes in temperature or the storm’s path could significantly alter precipitation types and totals.

Officials urge residents to monitor updates and prepare for travel disruptions. Bridges and overpasses will ice first, even if surface temperatures hover above freezing. Motorists should allow extra travel time or postpone trips.

Residents are advised to stock emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights, and to ensure vehicles are equipped for icy roads. Power outages are possible in areas with heavier ice accumulation.

The Winter Storm Watch will remain in effect until Saturday morning. Stay tuned to local weather updates and safety advisories as the storm approaches.
