Atlanta, GA – Spring weather in Georgia is taking a turbulent turn this weekend, with severe storms expected to impact much of north and central Georgia on Saturday, March 15. Residents should prepare for heavy rain, gusty winds, and the possibility of hail as strong storms move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms is in effect late Friday into early Saturday morning for northwest Georgia. The storm system is expected to intensify on Saturday afternoon and evening, with the potential for damaging winds up to 60 mph, quarter-sized hail, and heavy downpours. An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) is forecast for parts of north and central Georgia, increasing the likelihood of severe thunderstorms.
Drivers on Interstate 75 and Interstate 85 should exercise caution, as heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. The worst of the storms will likely move through between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday before tapering off into Sunday morning.
By Sunday, conditions will begin to clear, with sunshine returning and a high near 71°F. The five-day forecast shows mostly sunny skies Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the mid-60s to mid-70s. Another round of showers is possible by midweek.
Residents should monitor local weather alerts and have a plan in place in case severe storms develop.
