Peachtree City, GA – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for north and central Georgia, beginning Friday at 7 a.m. and lasting until Saturday morning. Residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions as snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected to impact the region, especially along the I-20 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, far northern areas, including mountainous regions, could see snow accumulations of up to six inches, while areas closer to Atlanta may receive two to four inches of snow or sleet. A layer of freezing rain could make roads, bridges, and overpasses treacherous, particularly Friday evening. Temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing, increasing the risk of ice formation.

Georgia DOT officials advise residents to limit travel on Friday and Saturday morning, as road conditions may become nearly impassable. Motorists should ensure their vehicles are winter-ready and consider carrying emergency supplies, including blankets and flashlights.

The weather system is expected to move in Friday morning with snow developing by early afternoon. Precipitation may shift to sleet and freezing rain by evening, particularly south of the metro Atlanta area. Skies are expected to clear Saturday, but freezing overnight lows will maintain icy conditions into early Sunday.

The extended forecast for Peachtree City shows sunny skies returning by Sunday, with highs near 44°F. Cold overnight temperatures will persist through early next week. Residents are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local authorities.
