Tallahassee, Florida – Heat and humidity will grip the Florida Panhandle and parts of southern Georgia through Wednesday, with inland temperatures climbing into the mid-90s and heat indices potentially topping 108°F. Afternoon thunderstorms could provide some relief—but also bring gusty winds and lightning threats across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the highest storm chances will expand from coastal areas south of I-10 today into Georgia and Alabama by midweek. Cities like Perry, DeFuniak Springs, and Dothan will see storm chances increase to 75–80% by Thursday, with Cross City and Valdosta close behind.

Afternoon storms could bring winds between 35–50 mph, frequent lightning, and short-lived localized flooding. “When thunder roars, go indoors,” officials warned. Power outages and road hazards are possible, especially during rush hours.

Meanwhile, temperatures will peak in cities like Tallahassee (96°F), Bainbridge (95°F), and Dothan (95°F) through Tuesday, with a 50% chance of reaching heat advisory criteria. Residents without proper cooling are at moderate to major risk of heat-related illness.

Conditions should ease slightly after Wednesday as thunderstorm coverage increases. More advisories may follow if heat index levels or storm severity continue to climb.
