Grand Forks, ND – A powerful snowstorm is moving through the Devils Lake Basin today, bringing moderate to heavy snowfall and reduced visibility across the region. Blowing snow is expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Sunday, with gusts reaching up to 32 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, snow began early this morning and will continue throughout Saturday. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected by tonight, with some areas possibly seeing more than 4 inches before the storm subsides. Roadways like U.S. Highway 2 and Interstate 29 are expected to be particularly impacted by snow and ice, creating slick and dangerous conditions for drivers.

Residents are urged to delay non-essential travel and check for updated road conditions at travel.dot.nd.gov or mn511.org. Winds will also contribute to reduced visibility, especially in open areas, making it critical for travelers to exercise caution.

Looking ahead, patchy blowing snow may persist Sunday morning before calmer weather returns by Monday. Highs will struggle to reach 6°F, while wind chills could dip as low as -23°F overnight. The extended forecast predicts mostly sunny skies Monday and Tuesday, but frigid temperatures will continue with lows around -18°F Monday night.

Prepare for icy roads, bundle up against freezing winds, and stay informed on evolving conditions to ensure safety.
