Grand Forks, ND – Light snow is spreading across eastern North Dakota this morning, creating slick roadways and potential visibility issues for drivers. Less than one inch of accumulation is expected, but travel could still be affected during peak commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow will move into Grand Forks between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. and continue through Fargo and Thief River Falls by 8 a.m. Affected areas include key roadways like Interstate 29 and U.S. Highway 2. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and check for updated road conditions at travel.dot.nd.gov.

Looking ahead, temperatures will drop significantly through the weekend, with highs reaching only 12°F by Friday and 6°F on Sunday. Snow chances return Saturday, with up to 2 inches of accumulation expected. Northwest winds could bring patchy blowing snow, further reducing visibility.

Friday will bring partly sunny skies with light winds, offering a brief break from snow. However, Saturday’s system is likely to bring additional snow and gusts of up to 26 mph. The extended forecast warns of an excessive cold risk beginning Sunday night, with temperatures dropping to -11°F and wind chills plunging further.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for winter weather by dressing in layers, ensuring vehicles are equipped for cold conditions, and monitoring weather updates.
