Grand Forks, ND – A wintry mix of snow and freezing rain is forecast for the Red River Valley late Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Hazardous road conditions are expected, making travel potentially treacherous. Residents should plan for slick streets and parking lots.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, light snow could begin Sunday afternoon, followed by freezing rain in some areas by nightfall. While the exact amount of precipitation remains uncertain, even a small accumulation could make untreated roads slippery. Ice is most likely west of the Red River, with areas like Devils Lake and Valley City at higher risk.

Temperatures Sunday will hover around 21°F with a light southeast wind. By evening, lows are expected to dip to 10°F, which could worsen icy conditions. Drivers should exercise caution, especially along the I-29 corridor and local highways, and prepare for slow-moving traffic.

Looking ahead, the week leading up to Christmas will bring a mix of partly sunny skies and gradually warming temperatures. Monday’s high will reach 18°F under mostly sunny skies, with a shift to northwest winds keeping things brisk. By midweek, temperatures will climb into the 30s, offering a brief reprieve from icy weather.

Residents should monitor local forecasts for updates, as timing and precipitation amounts could change. Keep driveways salted and sidewalks clear, and consider delaying travel Sunday night if conditions deteriorate.
