Grand Forks, ND – Temperatures will drop drastically across North Dakota this weekend as blowing snow and gusty winds move into the region Friday. Weather officials warn that reduced visibility could cause hazardous travel conditions along ND Highways, including Interstate 29.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, snow showers will begin Friday morning, with highs peaking around 34 degrees. However, temperatures will quickly plummet overnight, reaching lows of -6°F. Northwest winds of up to 29 mph could gust as high as 44 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and icy road conditions.
Saturday will bring a brief reprieve with partly sunny skies, but subzero temperatures will dominate, with highs near 0°F and lows plunging to -18°F. Sunday’s forecast predicts even colder weather, with highs only reaching -10°F and dangerous wind chills likely.
Drivers are urged to use caution when traveling Friday evening and Saturday morning. Avoid non-essential travel and carry emergency supplies in your vehicle, including blankets and water. Wind chills this severe can cause frostbite in minutes.
