Grand Forks, ND – Drivers across eastern North Dakota are being warned of hazardous road conditions Sunday morning due to freezing drizzle and black ice. Roadways, including bridges and overpasses, may become treacherous, prompting officials to urge drivers to slow down and avoid using cruise control.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Forks, freezing drizzle is expected to taper off by midday. However, slippery patches will likely persist as temperatures hover around 25°F. East Grand Forks is forecasted to see a high near 30°F with winds shifting from east to northwest by afternoon.
Looking ahead, snow showers are expected Sunday night, bringing up to an inch of accumulation in some areas. Monday will clear up with partly sunny skies and a high near 21°F, though gusts up to 26 mph could create wind chills. The Thanksgiving week forecast shows mostly dry conditions Tuesday and Wednesday, but another round of snow is predicted for Thursday into Friday, potentially impacting holiday travel.
Drivers are encouraged to check updated road conditions at travel.dot.nd.gov or by calling 511. With icy roads and more snow expected later in the week, travelers should plan ahead and pack emergency supplies for extended journeys.
