East Grand Forks, MN – Strong winds and scattered snow showers are creating hazardous conditions across northwest Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a High Wind Warningremains in effect until 5 p.m. Friday for areas including East Grand Forks, Crookston, Fargo, and Grand Forks. Wind speeds between 30 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph, are expected throughout the day. The powerful gusts may cause blowing snow, power outages, and travel disruptions, especially along highways such as I-29 and U.S. Highway 2.

Drivers, particularly those in high-profile vehicles, should use caution due to reduced visibility and potential for strong crosswinds. Tree limbs and unsecured objects may also be at risk of being blown away.

Weekend Outlook: Cold but Calmer Conditions

After the winds subside Friday evening, temperatures will drop significantly. Saturday will be sunny but cold, with highs near 26°F and a north wind around 6 mph. Sunday will warm up slightly, reaching 46°F, with light south winds at 10 mph.

By Monday, a chance of rain returns as temperatures climb to 51°F, with another round of gusty conditions expected into Tuesday.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel Friday, and prepare for shifting weather conditions throughout the weekend.
