Fargo, ND – A severe extreme cold warning remains in effect across portions of Minnesota and North Dakota through noon Tuesday. Residents are urged to take precautions as wind chills could plummet to -55°F in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Forks, the affected regions include central, north-central, northwest, and west-central Minnesota, as well as northeast and southeast North Dakota. These dangerously low wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as five minutes.

Local authorities recommend dressing in multiple layers and wearing hats, gloves, and face coverings when outdoors. Residents are also advised to limit outdoor activities and check on neighbors, especially those vulnerable to the cold, such as the elderly.

The warning encompasses cities such as Fargo, Bemidji, and Devils Lake, where temperatures are expected to remain dangerously low. Frostbite and hypothermia are significant risks, and proper preparation is crucial.

The extreme cold warning is set to expire at noon Tuesday, but temperatures are expected to remain below seasonal averages for the remainder of the week.
