Greenville, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina should brace for icy conditions as a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect this afternoon. The advisory will remain in place from 4 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, with snow and ice accumulations likely to impact travel.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), mixed precipitation is expected, including up to 0.5 inches of snow and sleet and about 0.1 inches of ice. The areas most affected will include Martin, Pitt, Greene, and Lenoir counties, where ice accumulation is anticipated to be heaviest.
The advisory warns of slippery road conditions that could disrupt the Friday evening commute and increase the risk of accidents. Pedestrians are urged to use caution when walking on icy sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, as these surfaces may become dangerously slick.
Drivers are encouraged to reduce their speed and allow extra time for travel. The NWS advises residents to stay updated on road conditions by calling 511 or checking local transportation updates.
The hazardous conditions are expected to improve by late Saturday morning as temperatures rise. However, residents are reminded to monitor updates from local authorities and prepare for potential delays or disruptions to weekend plans.
This weather event marks the first significant winter storm of 2025 for the region. Residents should take appropriate precautions, including staying indoors during peak icy conditions and ensuring they have essential supplies.
