Asheville, NC – Snow and gusty winds are creating hazardous travel conditions across western North Carolina, with winter weather advisories remaining in effect through noon and into the evening for some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, snowfall is expected to continue through noon today for the North Carolina foothills and Piedmont as well as Rabun County, Georgia, with additional accumulations of up to one inch. Winds could reach 30 to 45 mph, increasing the risk of fallen tree branches and difficult driving conditions.
For the North Carolina mountain counties near the Tennessee border, the advisory extends until 6 p.m., with up to two additional inches of snow possible, particularly at higher elevations. These conditions are likely to affect both morning and evening commutes, with slippery roads and reduced visibility.
Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution on the roads. For real-time road conditions, drivers can call 511 in their respective states.
