Wilmington, NC – Freezing rain is expected to create hazardous road conditions across southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Commuters should prepare for possible delays and icy roads.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters warn of freezing rain, with ice accumulation between a trace and five-hundredths of an inch, increasing the risk of slick roads and dangerous travel conditions.

Drivers on I-40, US-17, and local roads near Wilmington, Leland, and Surf Cityshould exercise caution and allow extra travel time Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The hazardous conditions may impact both the evening and morning commutes.
