Wilmington, NC – A strong cold front moving through North Carolina is bringing gusty winds, showers, and rapidly cooling temperatures today. Residents along coastal areas, including Brunswick and New Hanover counties, are under a wind advisory until 6 p.m., with gusts expected to reach up to 45 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, the day started with increasing cloud cover and southwest winds intensifying throughout the morning. Showers will develop by midday and persist into the afternoon before clearing from west to east later today. Tonight, northwest winds will bring significantly cooler air, with lows dropping to near freezing at 31°F.
Drivers, especially those on highways like I-95, are urged to use caution as gusts could make travel hazardous. Residents should secure outdoor objects and prepare for possible power outages caused by falling limbs.
Looking Ahead
Tuesday will bring a sunny reprieve with highs around 44°F and calmer winds, but temperatures will plummet to 23°F overnight. Wednesday continues the cold trend, with highs reaching 46°F under clear skies. By Thursday and Friday, expect mostly sunny conditions with highs between 41°F and 45°F, though nights will remain bitterly cold in the low 20s.
With the significant temperature drop and windy conditions persisting into the evening, the NWS advises keeping emergency kits and warm layers on hand.
