North Carolina Weekend Weather: Cold Front Brings Frigid Temps to Raleigh and Surrounding Areas Tonight

Raleigh, NC – Residents across North Carolina can expect freezing conditions tonight as an Arctic cold front sweeps through the region. Low temperatures are forecast to drop into the upper teens and mid-20s, marking some of the coldest nights this month.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, today’s high temperatures will barely reach the mid-to-upper 40s. Tonight, clear skies and calm winds will allow Arctic air to settle, sending temperatures plunging after sunset. Overnight lows will range from 19°F in rural areas to around 25°F in urban centers, including Raleigh. Drivers on I-40 and other major routes are advised to watch for possible frost patches early Sunday morning.

Sunday will continue the cold trend with highs peaking at 42°F and wind chill values making it feel even cooler. Overnight lows Sunday night will fall to 21°F under clear skies. Temperatures will gradually warm into the week, reaching the low 50s by Tuesday. Christmas Day is expected to bring sunshine with a high of 52°F, offering a bright and mild holiday for the Raleigh area.

Residents are urged to prepare for freezing conditions by insulating pipes, checking on elderly neighbors, and bringing pets indoors. Use caution when traveling at night or early morning as frosty roads could develop.
