Raleigh, North Carolina – Strong thunderstorms could roll into central North Carolina by 2 p.m. Tuesday, bringing high winds, hail, and dangerous driving conditions across the Triangle.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, damaging wind gusts and isolated large hail are possible from Tuesday afternoon into the night, particularly between 2 and 8 p.m. Spotter activation may be required, and residents should stay alert to changing conditions. Some storms could also bring heavy downpours, leading to localized flooding — especially in low-lying areas along I-40, US-1, and other commuter routes.
Counties at elevated risk include Wake, Durham, Johnston, and Chatham. The NWS has flagged these areas in its Hazardous Weather Outlook. Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge electronics, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.
The threat doesn’t end Tuesday. Storms could return late Monday and again Tuesday evening, with the potential for more scattered showers Wednesday night into early Thursday. Heat will build late week, with highs climbing to the low 90s by Thursday and Friday.
