Morehead City, North Carolina – Flash flooding and strong thunderstorms could slam parts of Carteret County starting Friday afternoon, with the potential for travel disruptions along U.S. Highway 70 and risky beach conditions continuing through the weekend. A Moderate Rip Current Risk also remains in effect Thursday through Thursday evening along the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, heavy rain is expected Friday afternoon into Friday night, with a 90% chance of thunderstorms. Localized flooding is possible, especially in urban and low-lying areas. Gusty winds and brief downpours may reduce visibility during commutes and on coastal routes like U.S. 70 and NC-24.

Saturday brings another round of thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening. While not as intense as Friday’s rain event, Saturday’s storms could still disrupt outdoor plans and cause localized street flooding. Beachgoers should remain cautious as rip currents may persist, especially near Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle.

Sunday offers some relief with only scattered storms expected, but chances rise again Sunday night. Early next week stays unsettled with daily storm chances into Tuesday. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and secure any outdoor items ahead of weekend storms.

⚠️ Prepare now: Charge devices, avoid flooded roads, and stay off unguarded beaches during high rip current periods.
